πŸ“ Indoor Volleyball Information

Thank you for your patience while we finalised the draw. This process took slightly longer than expected due to the number of team entries and the range of grades involved. To ensure fair and meaningful competition while maximising playing time, two match formats will be used:

β€’ Same-grade matches: When teams play another team from their own grade, matches will run for 2 hours and be played as best of 5 sets.

β€’ Cross-grade matches: When teams play a team from a different grade, matches will run for up to 1 hour and be played as best of 3 sets.

The 13-minute net time protocol is scheduled to take place before the game start time. If there isn’t a break between games, this net time will be included within the team’s allocated playing time (with the game still expected to finish on time). In situations where net time cuts into playing time, both teams may agree to use a shorter net time as an alternative.

Based on feedback received from the 2024 Masters Games, previously delivered by another organiser, we’ve made several updates to enhance the event experience:

  • All games will be held at the Edgar Centre, which will also serve as the Masters Games Hub.

  • We will have five courts available on Saturday and 3 courts on Sunday.

  • Matches will be played as best-of-five sets or to a maximum duration of two hours (whichever comes first)*

  • Volleyball Otago will provide two referees for each match (1st and 2nd referees).

  • Official 5 set scoresheets with player rotations will be used (for a refresher on how to complete a 5 set scoresheet, please view here)

  • VO will provide rotation pads if your team does not have any.

*We acknowledge the feedback from previous years requesting more volleyball games. While we have done our best to accommodate this, the number of team entries has placed some limitations on scheduling. To help address this, game times have been extended and matches will be played as best-of-five sets, meaning teams will receive almost double the amount of playing time compared to the 2024 format.

As official scoresheets with rotations are being used, all players are required to wear numbered tops (ideally with numbers on both the front and back). If your team does not have numbered shirts, strapping tape may be used to clearly display numbers. Teams are not required to wear a fully matching uniform however we do ask that all players wear similar coloured tops. Libero tops must be a clearly contrasting colour to the rest of the team.

If you anticipate any issues meeting the uniform requirements, please get in touch as soon as possible so we can work with you to find a suitable solution.

A final reminder to please ensure all team members have registered themselves to you team πŸ™‚ Please have this done by Friday at 5pm.

We’re excited to have you involved and can’t wait for a great weekend of volleyball. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

πŸ“ Beach Volleyball Information

Thank you for registering for the Masters Games Beach Volleyball event! Volleyball Otago is thrilled to be hosting the tournament this year, and we’re really looking forward to seeing you get amongst it!

Event notes:

  • Games will be played at Brighton Beach, directly in front of the Surf Life Saving Club.

  • Matches will run on a roll-on, roll-off basis. Please note that times listed on the draw are approximate.

  • Games will be played best of three sets (21–21–15).

  • In the women’s grade, we have included two invitational teams to make up numbers. Results involving these teams will not count towards the standings.

  • There are no uniform requirements for this beach volleyball tournament.

  • Please dress appropriately for the weather β€” as we all know, it can be four seasons in one day!

There is a public bathroom/change room at the beach and a tap to refill water bottles at the Surf Life Saving Club. There won't be any food vendors however there is a dairy down the road.

If the weather is looking poor, a decision to cancel the event will be made by 6:30am on the day, at the latest. Please note that we will only cancel due to wind conditions.

A final reminder to please ensure all team members are registered to your team πŸ™‚ This must be completed by Friday at 5:00pm.

We’re excited to have you involved and can’t wait for (fingers crossed!) a great day of beach volleyball. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
